Don’t come back from holidays with uninspiring photos of great buildings. Discover the secrets and problem-solving tips from a professional. Learn to see architecture exteriors and interiors in a new light. Experiment with angles, pick out details, use depth of field and motion in your images for results you’ll be proud to show. Includes theory, practice and offsite location shoot.

This course has a practical focus with assignments to enhance your skills in composition, low light photography, creating movement in a static environment and how to shoot interior décor to create a magazine style image. We’ll also cover information on camera lenses and equipment.

OUTLINE: 

This course will cover:

• Overview of DSLR Camera functions and buttons

• Specific settings for architectural and interior photography – use of aperture priority, ISO, white balance and colour     temperature, exposure compensation and bracketing, use of natural and flash lighting, flash exposure compensation, polarising filters

• Composition – rule of thirds, leading lines, uncluttered backgrounds, tilt/perspective, framing the picture, selective focus, strong colour contrasts, filling the picture frame, vertical verses horizontal, using motion, use of detail, balancing contrasting light

• Camera lenses - when to use a wide angle lens, a telephoto or a prime lens

• Camera equipment – tripods/monopods, reflectors, bean bags, lighting, remote switches, portable hard drives

Practical assignments will include:

• Looking for unusual angles and details

• Using motion in a static shot

• Low light internal photography with tripod

• Shooting interior decor to create a magazine style image

THINGS TO KNOW: 

Pre-requisite skills: A sound grasp of photography such as understanding all of the basic functions on your camera, shooting in aperture priority, exposure and flash compensation, ISO and white balance.

Equipment requirements: DSLR camera or compact with ability to change aperture, exposure compensation.

If you have a tripod, speedlite flash and remote switch bring them along.
Please make sure your camera is fully charged and bring a spare battery if you have one.

Serena Pearce is an accredited member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers with a particular interest in Architectural and Real Estate photography, travel and running digital photography courses and tours in Fremantle, the Swan Valley and outback Australia.

Serena’s Swanbourne-based studio Code Lime Photography has had the privilege of shooting some of the best real estate in Perth. As photographer for several prominent western suburb real estate agents and architecture firms including Space Real Estate, Acton Cottesloe Real Estate, Renouf Real Estate, House Real Estate, Ultimo Real Estate, Nena Snooks Real Estate, 101 Residential Builders, Maek Builders, Boston House Commercial Interiors, Ecotect Architects and Kingsley Pearce Architects, Serena has photographed everything from riverside mansions, Cottesloe apartments and historic Fremantle terraces to lifestyle shots of Claremont Quarter and surrounding areas, incorporating the artistic flair that sets her property images apart from the rest.

Also a keen travel photographer Serena has shot iconic images of outback Australia, Rajasthan, Namibia, Vietnam, Turkey, New York, Paris and Morocco culminating in three solo exhibitions.
